Fall Prevention Knowledge Products

Fall prevention knowledge in older adults is disseminated through three online knowledge sharing and communication platforms:

  • Loop Fall Prevention Community of Practice for adult and older adult fall prevention
  • Fall Prevention Month website/campaign

Supporting the translation of  knowledge into action is a key component of Loop and the Fall Prevention Month website/campaign.


The Fall Prevention Communities of Practice (CoPs), Loop is a free bilingual online communication platforms where members across Canada can share information, network, problem-solve and discuss how to implement evidence-informed and promising fall prevention practices. Loop focuses on fall prevention among adults and older adults . The goal of the CoP is to share knowledge on fall prevention with intent to inform practice with over 1,000 active members including front-line workers, practitioners, caregivers, researchers and policy planners.

Fall Prevention Month

Fall Prevention Month (FPM) is a call to action campaign that encourages Canadian organizations and individuals to come together to deploy fall prevention efforts through a coordinated and impact-driven campaign aimed at raising awareness and inciting change to reduce falls across the lifespan. The mission of the annual campaign that takes place each November, is to “equip health and service providers, business, government and academia with the tools to raise awareness and engage their communities in preventing falls and fall-related injuries.” The Fall Prevention Month campaign is informed by partnering organizations who work with health practitioners dedicated to preventing falls among adults, older adults, and children. Organizations and individuals can participate by planning activities and/or sharing evidence-based information on fall prevention aimed at raising awareness of falls and fall-related injuries.

The FPM campaign is supplemented by a website that provides an array of fall prevention resources year-round. The bilingual FPM website provides free downloadable resources to help organizations take action to prevent falls. On the website, there are resources related to adult and children fall prevention. The resources are divided into three categories: activities, promotional materials, and additional resources. Ideas for activities are provided to aid participants in planning their own activities/event and promotional materials are resources that can help organizations or individuals promote their own activity/event or the campaign itself. Both sets of resources are aimed at helping participants take action to prevent falls. The additional resources are free materials developed by external organizations that provide information on a variety of topics related to fall prevention and can include practitioner resources, statistics and infographics, along with information for parents, caregivers, practitioners, and others.
