Managing Heart Failure in Long-term Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic

On April 24, 2020, Dr. George Heckman, Geriatrician, Schlegel Research Chair in Geriatric Medicine and Associate Professor, School of Public Health and Health Systems, University of Waterloo, presented an interactive session about ways to help older adults living with chronic disease manage their conditions, using heart failure as an example. Upon completion of this one-hour session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the steps of chronic disease management
  2. Understand how specialists could provide support to Long Term Care medical teams.

This session provided specific information for the Long Term Care (LTC) environment with a focus on effective chronic disease management that can lessen care requirements and promote comfort and quality of life for those living with chronic disease in any setting. This session may be particularly important for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and others caring for individuals living with heart failure during COVID-19 outbreaks.
