World Delirium Awareness Day – March 15

In recognition of World Delirium Awareness Day, which falls on March 15, 2023, expert clinicians who deliver care to older adults are collaborating to deliver a range of delirium-related education events. Be sure to take advantage of these excellent offerings, about a critically important topic.

  • March 7, 2023: GeriMedRisk Geriatric Clinical Pharmacology Rounds will be presented by Dr. Karin Jane Neufeld (Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) . Titled ‘Delirium Care and Prevention.’ Attendees will be able to: identify the epidemiology, outcomes, and major themes regarding pathophysiology of delirium; review evidence on delirium prevention and management; and consider future research strategies for identification of the syndrome. Registration is open online for this Royal College accredited session.

  • March 16, 2023:  As part of World Delirium Awareness Day, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is hosting ‘Overview of Delirium and the Hospital Elder Life Program: A framework to improve acute care for older adults’. Register online to hear a lecture from Dr. Lyn Weinberg (Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh) highlighting the impact of delirium on patient outcomes, strategies, and interventions used to prevent and manage delirium, as well as challenges and solutions found with implementation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
